Race 1

1 JPN Haga, Noriyuki Renegade Ducati Ducati Ducati 999 RS
2 GBR Toseland, James Ducati Fila Ducati Ducati 999 F04
3 ITA Chili, Pierfrancesco PSG - 1 Corse Ducati Ducati 998 RS

It was good to see Pierfrancesco Chili race again on his PSG-1 Ducati 998 after two blown engines and one wreck in Monza. Chili held on to 3rd place which gave him the points he needed to stay competitive for the Championship.

Mechanical problems on his Honda CBR 1000RR caused Chris Vermeulen to finish 15th in the race.

Race 2

1 FRA Laconi,Régis Ducati Fila Ducati Ducati 999 F04
2 GBR Toseland, James Ducati Fila Ducati Ducati 999 F04
3 GBR Haslam, Leon Renegade Ducati Ducati Ducati 999 RS

Haga was on his way for a double at Oschersleben when his engine blew on lap 22 of 26.  It would have been great to see Haga beat the Ducati Factory riders one more time!

Pierfrancesco Chili fell off in lap 6 while trying to catch up with James Toseland in 2nd place.  The move turned out to be disastrous for the Italian Station.

Chris Vermeulen continued to have mechanical problems with his Honda CBR 1000RR causing him to drop from 3rd to 8th place in race 2.

World Superbike from Oschersleben, Germany

There are 3 great races on the Speed Channel today

FIM World Superbike: From the Motopark Veranstaltungs Oschersleben, Germany
3:00 PM: Race 1
4:00 PM: Race 2

5:00 PM: AMA Formula Xtreme Series From Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham, Ala.

This will be my first AMA Formula Xtreme Series race. It sould be pretty interesting because most of all of my favorite Honda riders from AMA Superbike like Jake Zemke, Ben Bostrom and Miguel Duhamel also race 600cc Formula Xtreme bikes like Honda's new CBR600RR.

Using Sprint PCS Vision with Mac OS X

I found a great article on how to use Sprint PCS vision with Mac OS X. I tried it just before I left of a family road trip, it works great!

Right now we're in the van headed to Leesburg, FL. Suddenly, this trip just got a whole lot better.

I'm getting about 256kbs with:
12" Powerbook
Sanyo SCP-8100
FutureDial USB cable purchased at Radio Shack

This is awesome.

Jacksonville Suns Baseball

baseball.jpg

A crowd of 9,154 was on hand last night to see Birmingham beat us 18 to 2, or maybe they were just there for dollar beer night. At any rate, a good time was had by all. And, for whatever reason, the fans stayed with the Jacksonville Sun right until the final inning.

I had a great time. It was nice to see Clark, Dave, Gabe, Travis, and Willey again.

The next Suns game I plan on going to is on June 2, 1:05 for the Businessperson Special - $12.50 buys a box seat, large hot dog and large beverage of choice. This is a pretty good deal, but I think it would be pretty fun to skip out on work for a ball game.

This game kicks off a nice 4 day weekend.

Ghost Town: a Travelogue from Chernobyl

elenaGhostTown.jpg elenaukraine.jpg
This is an update on an article that was posted on slashdot a few months ago. I'm just providing an update because I just noticed the Elana has moved her website off of angelfire and purchased her own domain. I guess the slashdot effect lasts as long as nuclear fallout. She claims that the "Server is averaging 12mbps and 4000+ concurrent users."

This is a great travelogue that features Elana from Ukraine taking her Kawasaki ZZR-1100 (ZX-11) sport touring bike through the the Chernobyl "dead zone." It's filled with surreal imagery of the a very modern city that was abandoned after the melt down. It's a modern day Pompeii. The dead zone is now miles and miles of open road.

World Super Bike: Chris Vermuelen disqualified after Placing Second in Race 2 at Monza

FireBlade!

"Unfortunately a fault was found in the engine concerning the cut off sensor which is used for rider safety in the event of the bike falling (once the bike is laid down the engine must cut of automatically within two seconds). The team tested the relevant engine part at the beginning of the season, when the bike was taken for testing after race two it was found to be faulty. For this reason Chris was disqualified costing him valuable championship points.

Chris is now 5th in the ranking of the World Championship with 83 points and Laconi is leading with 120 points."

More Info at WorldSBK.com

I was already pretty bummed out that Pierfrancesco Chili blew two engines in race 1, and then wrecked in race two. This was the most disappointed World SuperBike race I've ever watched. It's like an Italian opera.

"Before the desperate disappointment of a double DNF at the previous Monza round, Ducati privateer Pierfrancesco Chili led the world on his 998R-based Ducati machine. Even after two no scores at Monza, he still sits in third place overall, safe in the knowledge that he had an outstanding second place in race one last year. Looking for payback from lady luck, Chili approaches his 40th birthday in June with as much speed and aggression as riders half his age, ensuring his continued popularity to a global audience." - WorldSBK

I'm looking forward to the races at Oschersleben next week.

CenterICQ

I just installed CenterICQ on my Linux Box. It allows me to communicate via all the major IM clients (MSN, Yahoo, AOL, etc).

This works great on Drill weekend when I work behind a pretty tight firewall. I can SSH into my linux box, and do pretty much whatever I want.

Here's a link to the installation instructions. I used the RPM's.

Disney Vacation

The Star Tours Ride at MGM
The Star Tours Ride at MGM

Tomorrow Michele and I are taking a three day vacation to Disney World. We're looking forward to spending some time together and celebrating my recent graduation.

This will also give me a chance to unwind before my trip to OKC next week. Scott and I are heading out to Tinker AFB to deploy the E6-EPM database next week. It's been a long project, I'm very proud of the work we did. I'm looking forward to see our application used by the Fleet, and moving on to the next stage of development.

Further Proof that Everything I need is on Sourceforge

outport1.png I found this program that lets me export my Outlook calendar to a ICS (iCalendar) file.

Outport aims to be a generic program for exporting date from Outlook (Outlook + export = Outport. Original eh? :-) ) to various email/pim programs. It currently it can export to the Contact, Calendar and Task formats of Evolution, plus a number of generic formats supported by Outlook itself (Rich Text Format, HTML, vCalendar, vCard, iCalendar, etc).

Video: "There's nothing like looking crazy to give you the edge"

Mountain Goats Live in Chicago, IL. 2/28/2004 at "The Empty Bottle" "This is a song I want you to sing to the one you love when the time comes. You will know when the time comes. You will not be happy, and you will not feel like singing, but I want you to remember that I told you singing would help. Plus, it will make you look crazy -- and there's nothing like looking crazy to give you the edge."

Tech TV, G4, and Comcast

g4techtv.jpg

Okay, here’s the deal.

TechTV has been bought by Comcast. The Screen Savers and XPlay will be carried by Comcast’s G4 Network based in LA. Existing (Tech TV) jobs will be posted for those willing to relocate to LA. The San Francisco will be shut down by July. (I hope Kevin Rose moves to LA.)

more info on SlashDot
more info from Leo
info from Kevin Rose

So here’s the info on G4:
“ Q: What will a typical programming day look like?
A: The merged network will be the nation's premier 24/7 television network all about video games, technology and the gamer lifestyle. The G4 programming day will showcase many existing G4 and TechTV series such as G4's ICONS; PULSE; JUDGMENT DAY; PLAYERS, and CHEAT! as well as TechTV's ANIME UNLEASHED; X-PLAY; SCREEN SAVERS; FRESH GEAR; and ROBOT WARS. G4 will also premiere new original programming which will be announced at a later date.”

G4 / TechTV merger FAQ

“EchoStar Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: DISH) will have an equity interest in the combined entity and has agreed to make the channel available to its DISH Network customers who subscribe to its mid-level America's Top 120 programming package or greater.“

Comcast press release

"EchoStar Communications also will have a financial stake in the combined company, terms of which were not disclosed. EchoStar will distribute G4 on its Dish Network satellite TV service."

Coverage on CNet's News.com

I guess the good thing about all of this is that "The Screen Savers" will no longer be produced by a company owned by Microsoft's Steve Allen (Vulcan Ventures). I hope to see more Linux and Mac OS X coverage.
