Home Office
I just put another 1 GB of RAM in my notebook, so it no longer pages with I use IIS, SQL 2005, and Dreamweaver at the same time.
I'm pretty happy with the setup, now I just need a larger desk at a 24" display.

I've finished all the paperwork for the three officer vacancies this morning. I'm going to hand-carry them to St. Augustine this afternoon. If all goes well I should hear something in two weeks. It was a lot of work putting it all together. It feels good get it all ready.
I'm back at work today. I'll work today and tomorrow, then take Friday - Tuesday off. I'm taking Michele and the kids down to Disney on Monday and Tuesday.
I spend a lot of time worrying about things. It's usually the things that I can't do anything about, or things that I have to rely on others to do. This morning I got to take one of those things on my list.
Last month I sent Chief Carter an e-mail about taking the AFOQT, the test to qualify for becoming an officer in the Air Force. I didn't get a reply, and I've been thinking about it ever since. Well, this morning I got a phone call at home from Chief Carter asking if I wanted to take the test on January 12th at 0700. He said that there were only 12 slots available. I signed up for slot number 5.
What's awesome is that he tracked me down at home. Maybe if I went to work today, I would have missed the call. Maybe Michele wouldn't have answered the phone. Maybe I would I have been away from my desk, or he didn't get the Lake Gray Number. I’ve wanted this for a long time, and everything seems to be falling into place as if it were just meant to be.
If all goes well, I'll get selected for the Maintenance Officer position and be commissioned as at 2nd Lieutenant. If not I'll at least be better prepared for the next opportunity.
I started work today at my new office in Lake Gray. My commute to work is now 4 miles and takes about 5 minutes. This looks like it's going to be pretty nice. I like the people here. This office has a completely different feel to it. I haven't been able to put my finger on what's so different yet. I kinda needed a change in my office life, and I think this is going to work out nicely.
On Friday Scott and I finished the E6 ISMP (In Service Maintenance Planning) Web Application. This application had more post-production work than any other app. This led to the feeling that we would never release it.
Well, it's done ... finally.
We're taking this short week to re-group and plan the next big project. Hopefully we can come back on Monday and write some great new code. It feels great to move on to a new project.
Peter Gibbons : So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.
Dr. Swanson : What about today? Is today the worst day of your life?
Peter Gibbons : Yeah.
Dr. Swanson : Wow, that's messed up.

I just checked our surf control reports. Apparently I'm the number 1 internet user in our building. I've generated 68,596 hits since August 10th. I next guy has 24,479 hits. Scott has 12,873. It's pretty bad. Basically, if you were to print out a report that has every site I've been to in the past month, it would be 60 pages long.
I think I Should get some type of an award for this. I'm one of the most productive people in our office, and I surf the internet more than the next 3 people combined!
I'm already working on my response for when I get called out on this:
1. What's a hit?
2. Oh yeah, the internet has been really good lately.
3. Have you seen those George Bush Gnomes on Ebay?
4. Research man, Research.
I'm really not worried about it. In fact I'm kinda proud. Aside from the free coffee, the internet is the only real perk I use here. I don't take smoke breaks every 30 minutes; I don't hang around the break room for hours on end. I just sit at my cube all day. And if I have to surf the internet like a fiend to help me get through the phone con from hell, so be it.
I wonder how many hits I generated writing this?
This was very useful today. It allows you to manipulate select boxes with javascript.

This was the view from my hotel room.
I had a great time in Palm Coast. I attended the 3.0 (Logistics) Off Site meeting. Basically the 1st, 2nd and 3rd level supervisors all get together semiannually to discuss management issues off site. This allows the management team to spend a lot of "quality" time together in a setting free of the normal distractions of "the office."
I was ready to go because on Tuesday, I had all the distractions I could take!
This is a pretty prestigious award, and it’s the second time I’ve received it. This time, I was awarded the Air Force Commendation medal for building an ASP website for the Air National Guard Personnel conference.
It’s really nice to be recognized like this, but at the same time I feel pretty guilty about it. I work with some extremely dedicated people that work a lot harder than I do. I get awards and decorations a lot more frequently than they do. I guess the reason why is that everything I do (like web and database apps) are extremely visible. Another thing I have going for me is that I’m a workaholic. I check my ANG email even when I’m not at work. I connect remotely and work from home often. People notice this stuff.
As for the inspection this weekend, it’s really going great. This is because of the all the hard work of my co-workers out there. I hope they get some serious recognition for this one, because they really transformed the Network Control Center (NCC) into something great. I just hope it stays that way, and continues to improve.
This drill weekend with the Air National Guard has been great. Drill weekends sort of feel like family reunions. These people have seen pretty much ever side of me, and we’re really close. A big part of the monthly drill weekend is catching up everything that’s happened in the past month. We talk about work, motorcycles, football, school, and my future career plans. It’s pretty nice. About all else, it’s the reason why I stay in the guard.
Tomorrow is the last day of the September UTA and the UCI inspection. I plan on riding my bike in and staying pretty low key.
Today both Scott and Jason were out, so I was the only programmer here. I closed 18 out of 31 bugs in ABC Tracker. It was really pretty fun. Lately my days are spent in meetings our drafting presentations. It was good to see that I could still code!
This weekend is drill weekend with the Florida Air National Guard (FL ANG). Its a big UTA because we're having a Unit Compliance Inspection (UCI). [HIJK LMNOP?] I think I'm going to come out and work on Thursday and Friday before the inspection, just 'cause I care.
My TiVo is working overtime today. Right now there is an "American Choppers" and "Start Trek: TNG" marathon in progress. American Choppers is ranked higher, so it is recording the eps I've haven't seen in the past month. Next, TiVo records the TNG eps that don't conflict with American Choppers.
This morning I looked for jobs on Monster.com . Looks like I can make 110k if I move to NY. I don't plan on moving until Spring / Summer of 2004, when I finish school at FSU, but it's nice to see what's out there.
I finally got started with my FALL 2003 course work. Looks like a great semester.
Later on today, I'm going on a ride with my brother Scott, and my Dad. Should be fun. Pictures to follow.
Mac Rumor: MAC OS 10.3 Panther should be out in mid October. I wish this OS would just come out so I can buy my first Mac. I've been waiting for 3 months.
I'm off to Oklahoma City next week for ISI. We'll be planning a brand new project. To mark this momentous occasion, I just bought 2 new Italian suits. What's happening to me?
